The Walking Dead ratings slump to all-time low

February 22, 2019 by Gary Collinson

An overhaul of the show both in front of and behind the camera has done little to halt The Walking Dead’s slump, with the once mighty AMC zombie drama slipping to an all-time ratings low with this past Sunday’s episode.

As reported by The Wrap, ‘Omega’ averaged a 1.7 rating in the key 18-49 demo, with 4.54 million viewers for the episode. That’s the lowest numbers for any episode of the series in its nine-year history – an unwanted record previously held by the second episode of the first season on 4.71 million viewers.

The Walking Dead has fallen heavily since its peak back in 2014, with the season five premiere attracting a whopping 17.3 million viewers – almost four times that of the most recent episode.

Despite this decline, The Walking Dead remains the highest-rated scripted programme on cable (for the time being, at least), and AMC has already announced that it has renewed the show for a tenth season, which showrunner Angela Kang claims won’t hold anything back.
