Game of Thrones’ final battle for Winterfell will be “completely unprecedented and relentless”

March 5, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Details regarding the Battle of Winterfell in Game of Thrones‘ final season have been released, and it is shaping up to be something historic.

Game of Thrones‘ final ever season is almost upon us and while fans are expecting a satisfying and coherent conclusion to the long-running fantasy epic, what else can they look forward to once the season premieres this April?

Well, EW has the details on the Battle of Winterfell, an on-screen tussle which will apparently take place in “arguably the most difficult-to-produce episode in television history” according to the report.

EW reveals: “The episode chronicles the great battle of Winterfell, pitting an uneasy collection of allies against the Night King and his army; a face-off teased from the series’ very first scene. It’s one of two in the final season directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who previously tackled ‘Hardhome’ and the Emmy-winning ‘Battle of the Bastards.’

“The episode is expected to be the longest consecutive battle sequence ever committed to film, and brings the largest number of GoT major characters together since the show’s debut episode in 2011.”

It certainly sounds like it’s going to be something quite special and co-executive producer Bryan Cogman only adds fuel to that fire: “What we have asked the production team and crew to do this year truly has never been done in television or in a movie. This final face-off between the Army of the Dead and the army of the living is completely unprecedented and relentless and a mixture of genres even within the battle. There are sequences built within sequences built within sequences. David and Dan [wrote] an amazing puzzle and Miguel came in and took it apart and put it together again. It’s been exhausting but I think it will blow everybody away.”
