Rockstar Games lashes out at BBC movie The Gamechangers

September 17, 2015 by Tom Beasley

Rockstar Games has hit out at the BBC via social media following their broadcast of The Gamechangers, which told an unofficial, unauthorised story of the creative process behind the company’s hit game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The Gamechangers, which starred Daniel Radcliffe (Victor Frankenstein) and Bill Paxton (Nightcrawler), aired on BBC Two on Tuesday.

Rockstar representatives aired their dissatisfaction with the programme as it aired, using their Twitter account to dismiss it as “random, made up bollocks”.

Former Rockstar programmer Mike Dailly also chimed in, accusing the BBC of making up the story they depicted on screen.

So I guess “Factual Drama” means… there was a true story, but we made one up. #TheGamechangers

The company’s dismissal of The Gamechangers was not unexpected given their previous objections to the project.

Rockstar filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the BBC earlier this year in an attempt to make sure none of their trademarks were misused in the film.
