Y: The Last Man is not moving ahead at FX in “its current form”

April 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Here’s some bad news for fans of Brian K. Vaughan’s acclaimed comic book series Y: The Last Man, as FX has announced that it has decided not to move forward with its planned TV adaptation “in its current form” and will look to retool the project.

FX first picked up the rights to Y: The Last Man back in 2015 after a planned movie adaptation failed to materialise. Developed – at a snail’s pace – since by Michael Green (American Gods, Blade Runner 2049) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn), the project received a series order just this February.

Green and Croal make the announcement on Twitter that they have exited the series over creative differences:

“We hoped to reward their talent and their trust not just with success, but with a show that had something to say, in a time when things must be said. As Y fans ourselves, we hope the future allows just that.”

Apparently, FX plans on moving forward with the same cast, which includes Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk), Diane Lane (Justice League), Imogen Poots (Green Room), Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel), Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water) and Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours). However, it’s not clear at this point just how the series will be retooled, or when it might actually get moving again.
