Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation has continued to break records upon its release in China this past weekend by becoming the highest-grossing 2D Hollywood film of all time.
The Christopher McQuarrie-directed action spectacular from Paramount and Skydance has now earned over $124 million since its release on September 8th, surpassing Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, which held the record previously with $122 million.
On its release, the film has also set a new record for the biggest 2D opener in the Middle Kingdom with $18 million. With both records now taken, the fifth film in the franchise has now taken over $656 million worldwide, and will probably beat the $694.7 million grossed by its predecessor, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is still playing in cinemas and stars Tom Cruise alongside fellow franchise veterans Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames and new additions Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules), Sean Harris (Prometheus) and Alec Baldwin (Still Alice).
