Tom Holland believes Spider-Man is in “safe hands” at Sony

September 4, 2019 by Liam Waddington

Tom Holland’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe looks to be over at present as Disney and Sony recently broke ties after failing to reach an agreement regarding a new deal for Marvel Studios to incorporate the web-slinger into the MCU.

Now, in a recent statement given to GQ, Holland, who is still under contract to play Spider-Man, shared his gratitude to Marvel Studios for the last five years, but also expressed his confidence that the character is in safe hands at Sony:

“I’m not shy about expressing how incredible the last five years have been with Marvel,” Holland stated. “I’ve truly had the time of my life, and in so many respects, they have made my dreams come true as an actor. Sony has also been really good to me, and the global success of Spider-Man: Far From Home is a real testament to their support, skill and commitment. The legacy and future of Spidey rests in Sony’s safe hands. I really am nothing but grateful, and I’ve made friends for life along the way.”

Whether you are sceptical or not about Sony taking back full control of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man iteration, unless a new deal can be reached, this will be the foreseeable future for the character. To Sony’s credit, they do seem to be showing signs they do have a solid plan for their Spider-Man universes, more so than they did during The Amazing Spider-Man series.
