It director Andy Muschietti confirms The Flash will be his next film

September 5, 2019 by Gary Collinson

After several years stuck in development hell, not to mention numerous director shake-ups, it looks at though Warner Bros. and DC Films’ planned superhero movie The Flash may finally be ready to get out of the starting blocks.

Last month it was announced that It director Andy Muschietti has become the latest filmmaker to board the Ezra Miller-headlined solo movie, and now he’s confirmed to Collider that The Flash will be his next project now that he’s finished up his Stephen King adaptation with the release this week of It Chapter Two.

“What captivated me about The Flash is the human drama in it,” said Muschietti. “The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama [of it]. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror [elements in The Flash], really, but it’s a beautiful human story.”

The Flash was first announced back in 2015, with Seth Graheme-Smith (The LEGO Batman Movie) originally slated to make his directorial debut on the project. He departed due to creative differences, as did Rick Famuyiwa (Dope) and John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Game Night). Nevertheless, Justice League star Ezra Miller remains attached as Barry Allen, while it’s believed that Kiersey Clemons (Dope) is also still on board as Iris West.

As for when The Flash might go into production, Miller is scheduled to shoot the next Fantastic Beasts movie beginning in the spring of 2020, meaning that cameras likely won’t begin to roll until late 2020 at the earliest. In other words, there’s still plenty of time for more creative differences…

Do you still hold any sliver of excitement for The Flash? Could this be fourth time lucky with Muschietti on board, or is it only a matter of time before we get another creative shake-up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or reach out on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
