Spectre is just around the corner, with new TV spots, and images debuting all the time, and with speculation running wild as to the possibility of a new actor taking over as 007, Daniel Craig has been discussing his future as Bond.
Speaking to Time Out London, Craig has shed some light on his career as Bond and what the state of play is regarding his contract. Early in pre-production, news broke that Spectre was to be filmed back-to-back with Bond 25, but Craig wasn’t keen on the idea.
“I was contracted to do another one….That was all set up. But at the studio, there was a real keenness to get it done as soon as possible. In fact, there was a conversation at one point that went: ‘Let’s film two movies back to back.’ I just went: ‘You’re out of your fucking minds.’ In the nicest possible way. They’re just too big.”
It’s no wonder Craig felt the need to have a break in-between films, particularly as Spectre has a reported budget north of $300 million all in. In fact, asked about the subject of his fifth Bond, Craig said:
“Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on… For at least a year or two, I just don’t want to think about it. I don’t know what the next step is. I’ve no idea. Not because I’m trying to be cagey. Who the fuck knows? At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”
Asked to give advice to any potential replacement should he hang up his Walther PPK, Craig responded: “Don’t be shit.”
Spectre is set for release in the UK on October 23rd in the UK and November 6th in the States. The film sees Sam Mendes (Skyfall) directing Bond veterans Daniel Craig as James Bond, Rory Kinnear as Tanner, Ben Whishaw as Q, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Ralph Fiennes as M and Jesper Christensen as Mr. White, alongside franchise newcomers Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Colour) as Madeleine Swann, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Mr. Hinx, Monica Bellucci (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice) as Lucia Sciarra, Andrew Scott (Pride) as Denbigh, and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) as Oberhauser.
