Henry Cavill and Luke Evans join the cast of Sand Castle

October 10, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

The cast of war drama Sand Castle has swelled this week with news from Deadline that Henry Cavill and Luke Evans have joined Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: Apocalypse) in the film.

Directed by Netflix’s Narcos helmer Fernando Coimbra, Sand Castle is based on the experiences of screenwriter Chris Roessner, who was a machine gunner in Iraq around 2003 in the Sunni Triangle.

The story “centres on Matt Ocre (Hoult), who is part of a mission to repair a broken water system in the dangerous and unstable Iraqi village of Baqubah. While the people of Baghdad welcome the Americans as saviors, the villagers resist their presence and Matt and his unit must try to convince the community that they are part of the solution, not the problem, in order to save the town and get out alive.”

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice star Cavill will play the special forces captain who runs the operations, while Evans (High-Rise) will play a sergeant of Ocre’s unit.

Filming is slated to begin in November.
