The Grudge director says future sequels could head into other time periods

January 3, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The Grudge director Nicolas Pesce has discussed taking the franchise to other places and other periods if he is to continue the series further after the release of the upcoming sequel.

In a recent interview with The Boo Crew Podcast (via Bloody Disgusting), Pesce was asked if he had any ideas regarding further instalments in The Grudge franchise, to which he responded with:

“I do, but they sorta involve spoilers. I think the overarching thing would be to take it to more places than just Japan and America, and potentially even leave the modern era.”

“This is something to me…the Grudge is not a thing that happened once, it’s been happening forever,” he adds. “It’s just a matter of revealing when and where that happened. I think that there’d be something cool in going way far back and doing something that’s less contemporary and seeing what shape this sort of thing has taken the form of in other forms and other places.”

Are you looking forward to the newest instalment in The Grudge franchise? Would you like to see the series take place in other periods? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @flickeringmyth…

The Grudge is set for release on January 31st 2020 and sees Nicolas Pesce directing, Sam Raimi producing, and a cast that includes Andrea Riseborough, Demián Bichir, John Cho, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver.
