Brandon Routh says his DC’s Legends of Tomorrow exit “was not well handled”

March 10, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Back in August of last year it was announced that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow star Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer) and his co-star and real-life wife Courtney Ford (Nora Darhk) will both be exiting The CW’s time-travelling superhero series in its upcoming fifth season.

Routh, who has been with Legends since day one and actually made his Arrowverse debut in Arrow back in 2014, subsequently revealed that the decision was “not my choice”, and now he’s spoken once again about his impending departure, stating that he believes it has been mishandled by the show’s producers.

“[It] was a very traumatic event for me,” Routh told the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast. “It was not something I was expecting. It was not well handled. In the comic book world, Ray Palmer…disappears, but he leaves his belt behind, which is in the comics how he has the power to shrink, and this young man takes over, Ryan Choi, and becomes the Atom. That’s not what happens with Ray…he doesn’t get lost into the multiverse. We’re not following the comic book structure.”

The fifth season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is currently airing on The CW, and it’s unclear at this point which episode will see Routh and Ford making their exit from the series.
