The Boys showrunner says season 2 is almost finished, release date coming soon

May 18, 2020 by Liam Waddington

The second season of Amazon’s small-screen adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s acclaimed comic book series The Boys is almost finished with the release date coming soon.

According to The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke in a recent tweet, post-production on the show has continued to progress remotely following the global health crisis with the crew currently finishing off visual effects and sound work. Kripke also teased the studio should be revealing the release date and other news for the follow-up season soon.

I get asked a lot, so #TheBoysTV update: finishing #Season2 remotely. Still some VFX & sound to do, but we're SO CLOSE! Airdate (& other cool shit) will be announced SOON!#TheBoys @TheBoysTV @PrimeVideo #SPNFamily @Sethrogen @KarlUrban @JackQuaid92 @antonystarr @ErinMoriarty_ pic.twitter.com/mpS8lHgZT7

The Boys features a cast that includes Karl Urban (Thor: Ragnarok), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad), Laz Alonso (Traffik), Antony Starr (American Gothic), Dominique McElligott (The Last Tycoon), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Erin Moriarty (True Detective), Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence), Elisabeth Shue (Leaving Las Vegas), and Nathan Mitchell (iZombie). New additions to the cast for the second season include Aya Cash (You’re the Worst), Patton Oswalt (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Timeless stars Goran Visnjic and Claudia Doumit.

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, THE BOYS centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty. THE BOYS is a fun and irreverent take on what happens when superheroes – who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods – abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It’s the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.
