The Snyder Cut of Justice League is officially coming to HBO Max

May 20, 2020 by EJ Moreno

After three years of buzz, hype, and internet fights, Zack Snyder’s cut of 2017’s Justice League is finally on the way. Snyder announced the news at the end of a Vero Watch Party for Man of Steel alongside his wife, producer Deborah Snyder and Superman himself Henry Cavill.

While answering questions following Snyder’s live-commentary on Vero, the director was asked by a fan when his cut of Justice League would be released. Snyder responded in a moment that surely sent shockwaves throughout the internet: the infamous Snyder Cut is now titled Zack Snyder’s Justice League and will see its release on HBO Max as a multiple-episode streaming series.

“I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also, a special thank you to all of those involved in the Snyder Cut movement for making this a reality,” said Snyder.

After rumors broke this week that the announcement was incoming, the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement reached its peak. We even saw Aquaman’s Jason Momoa proclaiming online to “Release the fucking Snyder Cut”.

“Thanks to the efforts of a lot of people, we’re excited to bring fans this highly anticipated version of Justice League,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group. “This feels like the right time to share Zack’s story, and HBO Max is the perfect platform for it. We’re glad the creative planets aligned, allowing us to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.”

Reports say that the director is currently polishing up the final print, which is why it has no solid release date yet. But Snyder has confirmed that it will debut sometime in 2021 on the new Warner Bros. streaming service, which launches next week, May 27th.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League was directed by Zack Snyder and featured Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta and Robin Wright as General Antiope, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard as Mera and Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf.
