Neil Gaiman would love to write an episode of Doctor Who for Jodie Whittaker

July 20, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Neil Gaiman, who is perhaps best known for being the creator of the comic book series The Sandman and the novel Stardust, would like to return to the writing team on Doctor Who.

In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Gaiman revealed he would love to write an episode for Jodie Whittaker’s iteration of the Time Lord while also admitting he would have liked to write something for Peter Capaldi but he had other creative duties on Good Omens.

“Everything to do with anything about Doctor Who is always about time,” Gaiman said. “I love The Doctor. I think Jodie Whittaker is a fabulous Doctor. On the one hand, I’d love to write for her, but on the one hand, I really, really, really wanted to write something for Peter Capaldi, and never got there because I was writing and making Good Omens through the Peter Capaldi years. So, you never know. With luck, I’ll write something for Jodie, and if it isn’t for Jodie, maybe it’ll be the next Doctor down the line.”

Gaiman has previously contributed to the long-running series as he wrote two episodes during the era of Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor including ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ and ‘Nightmare in Silver’.

Doctor Who is set to return at the end of the year with the holiday special – titled Revolution of the Daleks – which will be the last appearance of Bradley Walsh’s Graham and Tosin Cole’s Ryan. However, Mandip Gill will continue to serve as Yaz beyond the next episode.
