John Carpenter calls Halloween Kills “the quintessential slasher film”

August 28, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Filmmaker John Carpenter, who returns to compose the music for Halloween Kills, seemingly can’t contain his excitement for the upcoming horror sequel directed by David Gordon Green.

During an interview at the virtual Fantasia International Film Festival (via Bloody Disgusting), Carpenter once again praised Green’s work on the Halloween sequel by calling it “the quintessential slasher film.”

“It’s the quintessential slasher film,” Carpenter said. “It is so intense…oh my god…it even stuns me how incredible it is. David just did a great job. Can’t wait to have you see it.”

This isn’t the first time the filmmaker has praised Halloween Kills as he recently referred to the film as “a slasher movie times one hundred” while teasing it will be “fun, intense and brutal.”

Carpenter isn’t the only member of the creative team that has shared their excitement for the upcoming sequel as co-writer Scott Teems said the script is “the bigger, badder, meaner version of the first one,” while Michael Myers actor James Jude Courtney described Halloween Kills as “Halloween on speed.”

Halloween Kills is directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Green and Danny McBride and sees Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) Judy Greer (Karen), Andi Matichak (Allyson), Jibrail Nantambu (Julian), Kyle Richards (Lindsey Wallace), Nancy Stephens (Nurse Marion), Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett) and Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney (The Shape) all reprising their roles, while new additions include Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone) as Tommy Doyle, and Robert Longstreet (The Haunting of Hill House) as Lonnie Elam. The film is currently scheduled to release on October 15th, 2021.
