Armie Hammer on whether there will be a sequel to The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

October 15, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although Guy Ritchie’s feature film adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was released five years ago, we are still waiting for any update on the potential second adventure with Henry Cavill’s Napoleon Solo and Armie Hammer’s Ilya Kuryakin.

Now, in an interview with CinemaBlend to promote his upcoming romantic thriller Rebecca [read our review here], Hammer and his co-star Lily James discussed whether there is a chance that a sequel could be developed, to which Hammer provided a small amount of hope.

“Why is there not a sequel to that movie? It’s so good!” said James, with Hammer responding: “No idea. Trust me, if someone was like, ‘Hey, do you want to do a sequel?’ I would be like, ‘Hell yeah, let’s go!’ … I hear it. I get people being like, ‘Are you going to do a sequel?’ The answer is, ‘I hope so! I’d love to.’ At one point, Lionel Wigram, who was the producer and also who wrote the original script, he and I talked about ideas and he told me an idea that he had for it, and I was like, ‘That sounds great! Whatever your idea [is], let’s just do it!’ I don’t know, man. Keep pushing. Hopefully one day we can do it. I’d love to do it.”

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. follows CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) who are forced to put aside their hostilities and work together to stop a mysterious criminal organisation from using nuclear weapons to upset the fragile balance of power between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. The film stars Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, Jared Harris, and Hugh Grant.
