Leslye Headland says her Star Wars Disney+ show is set in a time and place we know little about

November 10, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Leslye Headland, the creator of an upcoming Disney+ Star Wars TV show, says that the series will be set during a time that we don’t know much about and that geography was her starting point.

With the second season of The Mandalorian now safely underway, Star Wars is well and truly back in the public’s consciousness. More Disney+ shows are on the way, one of which is coming from Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland.

Headland has teased a few interesting details about the series in a recent interview, telling Fantastic Frankey on YouTube that: “I would say it’s in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don’t know much about. That’s what I can say.”

She also discussed how her starting point for the series wasn’t what happened but where: “For me it’s less about going through the Star Wars universe cinematically or artistically and instead combing through it geographically and going on a literal journey. When we were pitching I had my designer create that Indiana Jones (charted map) dotted red line. This is our journey, this is where we are going.”

She also clarified that just because the show will be starring a female character, doesn’t mean that there won’t be male characters: “Just because my show is technically, yes, ‘female-centric’, meaning it centers around a female protagonist, I don’t think that necessarily excludes men from that space. Listen, I relate to male characters all the time. I root for Mando. I root for Luke.

“An inclusive space means an inclusive space. But at the same time, I think that just because something has a female protagonist doesn’t necessarily mean it’s only for women.”

We don’t know yet when the show will enter production and as the Cassian and Obi-Wan shows are ahead of it in the pecking order, we will likely be waiting a little while for any concrete details.
