Tom Holland talks Spider-Man

November 28, 2015 by Gary Collinson

During an interview with Coming Soon to discuss his new film In the Heart of the Sea, Tom Holland spoke briefly about his new role as Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with next year’s Captain America: Civil War and leading into the Marvel and Sony solo reboot in 2017.

“I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man, and growing up, I had countless Spider-Man costumes,” states Holland. “Only two years ago did I go to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man. I had this awesome morph suit where you can put your phone on your chest and spiders would crawl across the costume, it was awesome! He’s always been a big part of my life and a big part of boys’ lives because everybody can relate to him.”

Although secret identities don’t look like they’re going to play a part in Civil War, Holland feels that the fact Spider-Man hides his identity behind a mask puts him in a unique position in the MCU: “I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask.”

Spidey will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War, which opens on April 29th 2016 in the UK and May 6th 2016 in the States, while the as-yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot is set for release on July 28th 2017.
