Tom Cruise explains why Mission: Impossible 7 bike stunt was the most dangerous of his career

May 11, 2021 by Liam Waddington

Since the first Mission: Impossible film one aspect of the films that fans have come to expect in each instalment is leading man Tom Cruise performing death-defying stunts for our entertainment, and it seems like Mission: Impossible 7 will be no exception.

In an interview with Empire, Cruise explained why riding a motorcycle off the edge of a cliff in the seventh instalment is currently the most dangerous stunt of his career.

“If the wind was too strong, it would blow me off the ramp,” Cruise explains. “The helicopter [filming the stunt] was a problem, because I didn’t want to be hammering down that ramp at top speed and get hit by a stone. Or if I departed in a weird way, we didn’t know what was going to happen with the bike. I had about six seconds once I departed the ramp to pull the chute and I don’t want to get tangled in the bike. If I do, that’s not going to end well.”

These dangerous stunts really began to garner more attention in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol with Cruise climbing the Burj Khalifa – which is the tallest building in the world. For Rogue Nation, he performed a motorcycle chase through Morocco and hung off the side of an aeroplane while it lifted off the runway. And for Fallout, he both dangled below a helicopter and also flew a helicopter himself, took part in yet another motorcycle chase this time through Paris, and performed a HALO jump from 25,000 feet in the air.
