Disney’s Enchanted sequel Disenchanted officially begins production

May 18, 2021 by Ricky Church

Disney has announced that Disenchanted, the long-awaited sequel to Enchanted, has begun production and revealed Maya Rudolph’s (Bridesmaids) role as Malvina Monroe, the villainess of the film. They also announced more casting to the film with Kolton Stewart (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2), Oscar Nunez (The Office) newcomer Gabriella Baldacchino taking over the role of Morgan, the daughter of Patrick Dempsey’s Robert.

The announcement was made over Disney+’s Twitter account where Rudolph also revealed her role, saying “What’s a good fairy tale without a great villain? I’ll see you in Andalasia my pretties.”

The original 2007 live-action movie was a satire on Disney animated princess musicals and follows a fish-out-of-water tale about a cartoon princess who is submerged in modern-day New York City. The official synopsis of the film reads:

Taking place 15 years after Enchanted, which found fairy-tale princess Giselle banished from her kingdom of Andalasia to Manhattan, Disenchanted returns us to the world of Giselle (Amy Adams) and her pragmatic divorce lawyer husband, Robert (Patrick Dempsey). Patrick’s daughter, Morgan, is now a teenager. As Giselle and family relocate to the suburb of Monroeville, she must face the challenges of a new home and re-discover the true meaning of happily ever after.

Disenchanted sees Adams and Dempsey reprising their roles from Enchanted alongside James Marsden and Idina Menzel. Joining the sequel is Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Jayma Mays (Glee), Kolton Stewart (My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2), Oscar Nunez (The Office) and Gabriella Baldacchino.

Disenchanted will premiere on Disney+ in 2022.
