Halo live-action series loses showrunner ahead of first season premiere

June 26, 2021 by EJ Moreno

It seems that Paramount+’s upcoming Halo series will need a new showrunner should it make it through to a second season, as Variety reports that writer-producer Steven Kane will remain on board through the remainder of post-production process for the first season only.

The trade notes that Kane has been working on this project in Budapest for the past two years and “wishes to return stateside for personal reasons.” Kane came onboard to co-develop and co-showrun in March 2019. At one point, he was originally paired with Kyle Killen as showrunners, but Killen left before production started.

Based on the best-selling and long-running video games series, Halo will follow “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant.”

Pablo Schreiber (Orange Is The New Black) will star as Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, a super soldier created as part of the Spartan–II program. Natascha McElhone will play Dr. Catherine Halsey, the creator of the Spartan soldiers. Video game regular Jen Taylor will reprise her role as Cortana, who is described as the most advanced AI in human history. Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, Kate Kennedy, Danny Sapani, Olive Gray, and Charlie Murphy will also star.
