Predator producer praises director Dan Trachtenberg’s new film, compares it to the original

July 29, 2021 by EJ Moreno

A new Predator film can cause hesitation in fans. The franchise has seen some highs and lows, with Shane Black’s latest installment being a polarizing entry. But the producer of the upcoming new Predator film dubbed Skull says that the new one could be one of the best yet.

In an interview with Collider to promote Jungle Cruise, producer John Davis was asked about the upcoming Predator film from director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) and in a moment of considerable hype, Davis compared the new entry to the iconic original.

“It goes back to what made the original Predator movie work. It’s the ingenuity of a human being who won’t give up, who’s able to observe and interpret, basically being able to beat a stronger, more powerful, well-armed force,” says Davis. “It’s going to be, I believe, the second best — or the first… or it may be equal to the first one. Right? I feel like the first one was a wonderful, interesting movie, and I know what worked about it. I feel like we kind of never got back there again. We ended up in different places. I think this is a worthy complement to the first one. It’s going to be as good.”

In one of the more shocking comparisons as of late, the producer went on to compared it to an Oscar-winning film: “It actually has more akin to The Revenant than it does any film in the Predator canon. You’ll know what I mean once you see it. You can use your imagination. It is… early.”

Davis also had some solid praise for director Dan Trachtenberg, adding that: . “Watching dailies, you just understand how his vision is completely unique. He’s got his own language, and it’s fresh, and it’s cool, and it’s interesting.”

Could this new Predator movie be the one to unite the fandom? Might a return to the original film’s style work best, similar to what Robert Rodriquez did with 2010’s Predators.?
