Dracula-inspired The Bride adds Stephanie Corneliussen

August 25, 2021 by Ricky Church

Deadline reports that the Dracula reimagining The Bride has added Stephanie Corneliussen (Mr. Robot) to its cast. She joins Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Garret Hedlund (The United States vs. Billie Holiday) and Alana Boden (I Am Elizabeth Smart) in the film.

The Bride is “contemporary thriller that tells the story of young woman invited to a lavish destination wedding in England, only to realize her presence at the wedding has sinister motivations.” Emmanuel will play the lead role as the unsuspecting woman while Corneliussen’s role has not yet been revealed.

In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the infamous vampire three vampire brides living with him in his Transylvanian castle. At some point he turned each of them into a vampire and keeps as his servants, providing them with men, women and possibly young children and infants to feed upon.

Jessica M. Thompson (The End) is directing from a script originally written by Blair Butler (Polaroid) with Thompson having made revisions with Emile Gladstone and Screen Gems producing.

Stories on Dracula and vampires are nothing new and a huge part of genre horror, but this now marks the fourth project that has recently been greenlit involving Dracula or elements from Stoker’s classic. There is André Øvredal’s The Last Voyage of the Demeter starring Corey Hawkins which is based on a single chapter in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Chris McKay’s Renfield about Dracula’s eponymous servant, a contemporary Blumhouse adaptation from Karyn Kusama, and a new film from Universal and recent Nomadland Oscar-winner and Marvel’s Eternals director Chloe Zhao, who is taking the story in a new direction as a “futuristic, sci-fi Western”.
