Vincent D’Onofrio on possible Marvel return as Kingpin: “I just need to be asked”

September 26, 2021 by Gary Collinson

It’s long been rumoured that Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock could be set to make an appearance in December’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, but he isn’t the only Daredevil star who’s been said to be heading to the MCU proper in recent weeks.

No sooner had Marvel Studios debuted the first trailer for its Disney+ series Hawkeye than speculation began running rampant about the possibility of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk turning out to be the show’s big bad – or Kingpin, if you will.

Of course, that remains unconfirmed at present, and D’Onofrio himself wasn’t giving anything away when speaking to Screen Rant recently, although he did say that he would “jump at the chance” to return as the Kingpin and that “I just need to be asked”.

“I do take it as a compliment,” said D’Onofrio when asked about fan hopes for his return as the Marvel villain. “I so badly want to play that character again. I love that character. I just have to wait for Marvel to ask me. I think it’s very clear that I would, and the fans know that I would jump at the chance to play again. I just need to be asked.”

D’Onofrio went on to praise the writing team on Daredevil for their work with the character, stating: “With Wilson Fisk, there’s no performance of mine that I did that wasn’t written first. It was just great [work] by all the writers that did each season. They were all great in their own way. I never touched those scripts. I never altered dialogue; I never asked to alter dialogue. It was all there, all the time – and that’s rare. Especially in the first and third season, I would look forward to cracking open the script and reading it.”
