Vin Diesel teases a fourth Riddick movie “maybe closer than you think”

September 27, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

As Vin Diesel contemplates parking up Dominic Toretto with the final Fast and Furious installments just around the corner, he appears to be returning to where it all began with this year’s announcement that another Riddick movie is in the works.

Well now he has offered an update on the situation via his Instagram account, posting a picture of his character while revealing that he had “an incredible meeting today” and that “Furia maybe closer than you think”. See for yourself here…

Released in 2000, David Twohy’s Pitch Black introduced audiences to both Vin Diesel (after bit parts in the likes of Saving Private Ryan and The Iron Giant) and the character of Riddick. The relative success of the film ($53M from a $23M budget), coupled with an extended shelf life on DVD meant that a blockbuster sequel was bankrolled to the tune of $105M. Sadly the bloated final film failed to find an audience, grossing just $115M worldwide, and so Twohy and Diesel returned to the small-scale single location sci-fi with 2013’s Riddick, which was much more successful ($98M from a $38M budget).

Before Vin can strap on the swimming goggles and head to a beastie infested planet he has to do the similar for James Cameron’s how-ever-many-there-are Avatar sequels, as well as reprise his role as Groot in James Gunn’s trilogy capping Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3.

Are you excited for more Riddick, or has this universe expanded as far as it can go?  Let us know what you think by heading to our social channels @Flickering Myth…
