THR is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to take on the role of cult leader Jim Jones in White Knight, a psychological thriller from director Anne Sewitsky (A Very British Scandal).
The film is based upon Seductive Poison, the memoir of Deborah Layton, a survivor of the Jonestown Massacre, where over 900 members of Jones’ People’s Temple cult died as part of a mass murder-suicide in 1978.
Chloe Grace Moretz is set to take on the role of Deborah Layton, a members of Jones’ inner-circle within the People’s Temple, who tried to expose the cult-leader to the world after discovering the truth about him.
White Knight becomes the second high-profile Jonestown project in development in Hollywood, with Leonardo DiCaprio signing on to play Jones for an MGM project which has been scripted by Scott Rosenberg (Venom).
