Oscar Isaac says the Metal Gear Solid movie is “searching like Solid Snake” for a story

March 25, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Remember when old videogames took an eternity to load? Well, the long-gestating Metal Gear Solid movie appears to be the pre-production equivalent of a Commodore 64 loading screen (one for the kids there), and despite the exciting news that the franchise had found its Solid Snake in Oscar Isaac, he has recently revealed the film is still “looking for a story”.

While doing the rounds for his starring role in Marvel’s eagerly-anticipated Moon Knight, Isaac was asked by IGN whether he could give any update on Solid Snake, to which he replied “We’re searching. We’re searching like Solid Snake. We’re climbing through air-ducts, we’re looking for the story”. You can check it out in the video below…

Oscar Isaac, Solid Snake himself, told IGN “We’re climbing through air ducts, we’re looking for the story [of the Metal Gear Solid movie].” https://t.co/BDe0xdQ2n2 pic.twitter.com/Y7hOJieK0K

Metal Gear Solid is a hugely popular video game created by Death Stranding‘s Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. First released in 1987, the Metal Gear Solid game series has seen over 23 game instalments over various platforms and has sold over 56 million copies. It was originally reported that the story from the first game would inspire the film, one which follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize renegade special forces unit Foxhound’s terrorist threat.

The Kings of Summer and Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will work from a script penned by Derek Connolly. Avi Arad is producing and Peter Kang is the executive overseeing for the studio.
