Colin Trevorrow talks about the petition for George Lucas to take over Star Wars: Episode IX

January 12, 2016 by admin

Last week, an online petition made its way around the Internet to bring back Star Wars creator George Lucas to the diretor’s chair for Star Wars: Episode IX which, in theory, will be the last Star Wars film ever made. The petition says that while they are sure Colin Trevorrow, who is currently slated to direct the film, will do a great job – Lucas would be a more fitting director to end the series.

“It’s funny, I saw that, and it was on a day where I was at Lucasfilm giving this big speech to everyone about how we want to channel the invention and just the raw creativity and the boldness that George brought to these films and not being afraid that we’re going to embarrass ourselves by doing something that might be crazy,” Trevorrow said at the BAFTA Awards Season Tea Party on Saturday when asked about it. “When George Lucas made Star Wars, a lot of people thought it was crazy,” he said. “When you try to pitch what that movie’s about — if you’ve never heard ofStar Wars before, you say, ‘Here’s a character. His father’s part robot, but he can also do magic. And there’s a guy who can fly in a spaceship. He’s got a dog for a friend!’ — it sounds insane. But it’s the greatest story ever told. I just want to embrace that kind of invention and creativity that he brought to it.”

Lucas directed the original Star Wars and all three of the prequel trilogy films – The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith – but has since said that he is now done with the galaxy far, far away. He has yet to comment on the petition.
