Black Panther: Wakanda Forever gearing up for second-best box office debut of the year

October 22, 2022 by EJ Moreno

The first Black Panther was a box office juggernaut, opening to $202 million in 2018. The upcoming sequel won’t hit those massive numbers, but it’s looking to be another win for Disney this year.

The tracking figures released by NRG has Black Panther: Wakanda Forever debuting at $175 million in North America. Some in the industry feel the number will grow as Disney ramps up its marketing and the strong word of mouth based on the reviews.

We could see Black Panther: Wakanda Forever play a contender for the year’s biggest domestic debut. So far, the biggest opener is $187.4 million from another Disney/Marvel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It should be noted that early reactions to those who saw a rough cut of Wakanda Forever were very positive, and the advance ticket sales have been impressive.
