Daniel Kaluuya to voice Spider-Punk in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

November 8, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Daniel Kaluuya may have missed out on reprising his role in this week’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever due to scheduling conflicts with Nope, but he has been quick to line up another Marvel property with the news that he has been cast as Hobart “Hobie” Brown, aka Spider-Punk in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Kaluuya will join Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar Isaac, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Issa Rae, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Jason Schwartzman on the sequel to the Oscar-winning original.

Hobart Brown is a relatively new iteration of the web-slinger, having first appeared in 2015 from writer Dan Slott and artist Olivier Coipel. Described as a foul-mouthed teenager who lives on the streets, he became a Spider-Punk after being bitten by an arachnid irradiated by illegal waste dumping.

It goes without saying that we’ll all be swinging into theatres next June, but let us know what you think about Kaluuya’s casting as Spider-Punk by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, an epic adventure that will transport Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of Spider-People to face off with a villain more powerful than anything they have ever encountered.

Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson,  Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) features the voice talents of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter. B Parker, Oscar Issac as Spider-Man 2099, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Spider-Punk, and Jason Schwartzman as The Spot.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set for release on June 2nd 2023.
