We’re all alright as Netflix has renewed That ’90s Show for a second season, bringing fans back to the household of Kitty and Red Forman as their granddaughter Leia visits for the summer.
That ’90s Show is a sequel series to That ’70s Show, following Kitty and Red Forman 15 years after the end of the original series as they look after their granddaughter Leia for the summer. Over the course of Leia’s visit she makes new friends and begins a romance with Jay Kelso, the son of Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart, while Kitty and Red adjust to looking after a brand new generation of teens in their basement.
“All of us at That ‘90s Show were beyond excited by the warm, enthusiastic response to our first season. We can’t wait to return to Point Place for another summer of laughs and surprises. Hello 1996!” said co-creator and showrunner Gregg Mettler.
Co-creators Bonnie & Terry Turner, who also created That ’70s Show also chimed in with excitement. “We here in Point Place realize you have many options for entertainment and we’re thrilled you chose us,” said co-creators Bonnie and Tyler Turner, who also created That ’70s Show. “We look forward to entertaining you for years to come. Buh-bye!”
During the first season of That ’90s Show, original series stars Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis and Wilmer Valderrama made guest appearances. It is likely they’ll make more appearances in the forthcoming season.
“We’re thrilled that the incredibly funny stories from Point Place, Wisconsin continue to resonate around the world, no matter the decade,” said Tracey Pakosta, Netflix Vice President of Comedy Series.
The spinoff is set 1995, with Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) desperate for some adventure in her life or at least a best friend who isn’t her dad. When she arrives in Point Place to visit her grandparents, Red and Kitty, Leia finds what she’s looking for right next door when she meets the dynamic and rebellious Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide). With the help of Gwen’s friends, including her lovable brother Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan), his smart, laser-focused girlfriend Nikki (Sam Morelos), the sarcastic and insightful Ozzie (Reyn Doi), and the charming Jay (Mace Coronel), Leia realizes adventure could happen there just like it did for her parents all those years ago. Excited to reinvent herself, she convinces her parents to let her stay for the summer. With a basement full of teens again, Kitty is happy the Forman house is now a home for a new generation and Red is, well…Red.
That ’90s Show sees Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp reprising their roles as Red and Kitty Forman, alongside newcomers Callie Haverda, Ashley Aufderheide, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Donovan, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos, with Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Laura Prepon, Wilmer Valderrama, and Don Stark set to appear as special guests.
