Mortal Kombat producer promises the team are “committed to making the best MK2 possible”

June 25, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Mortal Kombat from 2021 was a hit with fans and audiences. The film saw impressive steaming numbers upon release, making long-time video game fans happy.

But not every fan was pleased, especially since Mortal Kombat only teased the iconic tournament but never actually got to it. Now, producer  Todd Garner promises a more game-like experience as the sequel’s production has now begun filming.

To celebrate principal photography beginning in Queensland, Australia, Garner took to social media to announce the start and give fans hope. “Off we go! I”m thrilled to start & trust me, we’ve listened,” says the MK producer. He adds that the crew “learned from the mistakes,” and everyone is “committed to making the best MK2 possible.” He does warn not to mistreat any cast & crew, though. Check out the tweet below…

Off we go! I’m thrilled to start & trust me, we’ve listened. We’ve learned from the mistakes & are committed to making the best MK2 possible. I, 100% support everyone’s right to their opinion, but I have the right not to be abused & will block you. So…let’s have an amazing ride!

The cast includes the returning Lewis Tan’s Cole, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han and Sub-Zero, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi and Scorpion, and Max Huang as Kung Lao.

New additions include Adeline Rudolph’s Kitana, Tati Gabrielle’s Jade, Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as villainous Shao Kah, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen will play Sindel, and Damon Herriman rounding out the cast as Quan Chi.

Simon McQuoid will helm the new film based on a screenplay by Moon Knight’s Jeremy Slater. The sequel is aiming for a mid-late 2024 or early 2025 release.
