With Blue Beetle arriving in theatres in just a few days, director Angel Manuel Soto has spoken on how much involvement new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran had in the new DC film’s production and final product. The answer is: very little.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Soto clarified some of his earlier comments – in which he revealed Blue Beetle will take place within the DC universe Gunn is building starting with Superman: Legacy – Gunn and Safran were happy with what Soto and his team were doing and gave them creative freedom to make it their way.
“The studio always, generally, has their hands on it,” Soto told the outlet. “As far as the essence of the story, [James Gunn and Peter Safran] liked what we were doing and they respected the vision and what we were trying to do with the film. They really did appreciate the fresh take, the nostalgic factor of how we start the film by taking the audience to see the family and fall in love with them for a prologue-of-sorts.”

Blue Beetle is set for release on August 18th.
