Though the limited series was rumored to get a second season, HBO is no longer moving forward with The Idol.
It was announced that the series starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp is finished after its one controversial and shocking season. The Sam Levinson drama took the internet by storm early in the summer of 2023, and it seems like it was too much for the studio.
The series currently sits at 19% on Rotten Tomatoes and lacksluster ratings following its shocking series premiere. Here’s HBO’s statement on cancelling The Idol:
“The Idol was one of HBO’s most provocative originals & we’re pleased by the strong audience response. After much thought & consideration, HBO, as well as the creators & producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season.”
