Dune: Part Two moves up its delayed March release date

November 17, 2023 by Ricky Church

Dune: Part Two has once again shifted its release date, though it is not a delay this time. Warner Bros. have instead moved its release up by two weeks where it will now premiere on March 1st, 2024.

Dune: Part Two was originally set for a release earlier this month on November 3rd, but due to the length of the SAG-AFTRA strike WB chose to postpone its release until March 15th in an abrupt move just a day after Empire devoted a full feature in its magazine to Dune. It also forced them to update Dune: Part Two‘s poster, which had also been recently released at the time, to its new date – which they will now have to update yet again.

Dune: Part Two is directed by Denis Villeneuve and adapted from the first book in Frank Herbert’s sci-fi saga. Adapting the second half of the first novel, it will follow Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he trains under the Fremen and unites them against the people who betrayed his father and destroyed his family, all the while attempting to prevent an upcoming war his visions have shown him.

Dune has been a passion project for Villeneuve as he has said it is his favourite novel. The series has seen many adaptations made, including the 1984 film from David Lynch and the miniseries Frank Herbert’s Dune and its follow-up Children of Dune. Villeneuve’s sequel will now hit cinemas the same year the prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood will debut on Max. The first film, released in 2021, made $402 million against its  $165 million budget. The film was later nominated for ten awards at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning six.

The highly-anticipated sequel continues Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious adaptation of Frank Herbert’s acclaimed bestseller Dune with returning and new stars, including Timothée Chalamet (Wonka), Zendaya (Euphoria), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Josh Brolin (Milk), Austin Butler (Elvis), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Christopher Walken (The Deer Hunter), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences), Léa Seydoux (Crimes of the Future), Stellan Skarsgård (Mamma Mia), Charlotte Rampling (45 Years), and Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men).

Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

Dune: Part Two is set for release on March 1st 2024.
