Tim Burton shuts down any prospect of more of Nightmare Before Christmas

November 25, 2023 by EJ Moreno

As The Nightmare Before Christmas turns 30 this holiday season, producer Tim Burton wants you to know there won’t be any sequels.

In a new interview for the anniversary, Burton tells Empire that he feels the film should exist on its own two feet, and stands firm against mining the franchise for more material.

“To me, the movie is very important,” he tells the outlet. “I’ve done sequels, I’ve done other things, I’ve done reboots, I’ve done all that shit, right? I don’t want that to happen to this. It’s nice that people are maybe interested [in another one], but I’m not. I feel like that old guy who owns a little piece of property and won’t sell to the big power plant that wants to take my land.”

He jokes: “Get off of my land! You pesky little… You ain’t getting this property! I don’t care what you want to build on it. You come on my property… Where’s my shotgun?”

The film director, Henry Selick, recently spoke about a prequel being the most exciting route; even actor Chris Sarandon said he’d “absolutely” be on board to reprise his speaking role as Jack Skellington. But Burton seemingly wants to shut it all down and let the film live independently. What are your thoughts? Be sure to reach out on our socials @FlickeringMyth and let us know…
