David Duchovny, Jack Whitehall and Carice van Houten to lead Amazon psychological thriller Malice

January 25, 2024 by Ricky Church

The X-Files star David Duchovny is returning to television for a new psychological series from Amazon. According to Variety, he, Jack Whitehall (Bad Education) and Carice van Houten (Game of Thrones) will lead Malice, a psychological thriller from The Great‘s James Wood.

Malice is said to follow “a young man (Whitehall) who seeks to infiltrate the world of a wealthy family, with Duchovny and van Houten playing the heads of that family.”

The series will be written and executive produced by Wood with Expectation Entertainment and Tailspin Films co-producing for Amazon.

This marks the first time Duchovny will have led a TV series since 2018. He is most known for his role as Agent Fox Mulder in The X-Files which he starred in as the lead for seven seasons and returned as an occasional special guest for its final two seasons. He also featured in the two X-Files films, one of which was produced during the show and bridges the gap between seasons and the other taking place after its series finale. The X-Files was revived for two mini-seasons in 2016 and 2018 which brought Duchovny and his co-star Gillian Anderson back, but despite the cliffhanger it is unlikely the series will be brought back for a twelfth season.

Prior to The X-Files revival, Duchovny also led the psychological thriller series Aquarius and the comedy Californication. Whitehall was the star of the comedy series Bad Education, which recently aired two specials years after its original run ended, and the murder mystery comedy The Afterparty as well as starring alongside Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson in The Jungle Cruise. Van Houten is most known for playing the sorceress Melisandre in Game of Thrones and since the conclusion of that series she has starred in Temple and Dangerous Liasons.
