Tom Cruise to lead new Alejandro G. Iñárritu film for Warner Bros.

February 23, 2024 by Ricky Church

It seems Tom Cruise may have just landed his first project at Warner Bros. under his new deal with studio. Per Deadline, WB and Legendary Entertainment are in talks for an original film from The Revenant director Alejandro G. Iñárritu with Cruise as the lead.

The untitled film, which Iñárritu wrote with Sabina Berman and his Birdman co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, will be Iñárritu’s first English-speaking film since The Revenant which earned him Best Director at the 2016 Academy Awards. He’s been meeting with several actors for the film with Cruise being one of the first as he plans his post-Mission: Impossible future after signing a deal with WB last month.

Nothing is known about the story or who else Iñárritu may be speaking with to join the film. As is usual for Cruise, he will produce the film as well as star in it.

Cruise is currently filming the eighth film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, which will be renamed from its previous title of Dead Reckoning – Part Two. It will be released on May 23rd, 2025 and Cruise will also reprise his role as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in Top Gun 3 with Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski returning to the director’s chair.
