Cillian Murphy confirmed for the Peaky Blinders movie

March 21, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Newly crowned Oppenheimer Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy is swapping the porkpie hat for the familiar feel of the razor blade-lined flat cap with the news that he will return as Tommy Shelby for the Peaky Blinders movie.

The confirmation came from series creator Steven Knight, who told Birmingham World that “He [Murphy] definitely is returning for it” before saying that the feature-length BBC/Netflix spin-off would go before cameras later this year, adding “We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth [England].”

Peaky Blinders ended its critically acclaimed six-season run last year, and told the story of the rise of the Peaky Blinders gang, led by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) during the first half of the 20th Century in Birmingham, England. The ensemble cast has included the likes of Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Sam Neill, Annabelle Wallis, Iddo Goldberg, Tom Hardy, Charlotte Riley, Finn Cole, Natasha O’Keeffe, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sam Claflin, Amber Anderson, James Frecheville and Stephen Graham.

Murphy has also been linked with returning to another of his iconic roles, that of his zombie-apocalypse survivor for Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later trilogy.
