Legendary announces Godzilla x Kong prequel graphic novel and MonsterVerse omnibus

March 25, 2024 by Gary Collinson

As the King of the Monsters and the Eighth Wonder of the World prepare to stomp back into cinemas with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire this week, Legendary has announced that it is bridging the gap between 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong and the new MonsterVerse sequel with the original graphic novel Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted.

Written by Brian Buccellato with art from Dario Formisani, Drew Johnson, and colorists Zid and Niezam, Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted presents an immersive journey into the depths of the Hollow Earth, as a twisted Skull Island trophy hunter lures his prey, setting his sights on the most formidable game of all.

“2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Monsterverse graphic novels, and GXK THE HUNTED continues the tradition of expanding the universe with new characters and creatures,” said Robert Napton, SVP & Publisher at Legendary Comics.

In addition to Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted , Legendary has also announced the Legends of the MonsterVerse Omnibus, a colossal compilation of the publisher’s five previous MonsterVerse released along with an all-new Godzilla story:

  • Godzilla: Awakening by Max Borenstein, Greg Borenstein, Eric Battle, Yvel Guichet, and Alan Quah
  • Skull Island: The Birth of Kong by Arvid Nelson and Zid
  • Godzilla: Aftershock by Arvid Nelson and Drew Edward Johnson
  • Godzilla: Dominion by Greg Keyes, Drew Edward Johnson, and Allen Passalaqua
  • Kingdom Kong by Marie Anello and Zid
  • Godzilla: Fight or Flight! *All new exclusive story by Brian Buccellato and Zid

This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

Directed by Godzilla vs Kong’s Adam Wingard, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire sees Rebecca Hall and Brian Tyree Henry returning alongside franchise new additions Dan Stevens (Beauty and the Beast), Kaylee Hottle (Godzilla vs. Kong), Alex Ferns (Chernobyl) and Fala Chen (Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is set for release on March 29th.
