Glen Powell in talks to headline J.J. Abrams’ next movie

May 9, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

J.J. Abrams hasn’t made a movie since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, whereas Glen Powell seems to be linked with a new project on a daily basis, and now their two paths will converge with The InSneider revealing that the actor is being lined up to star in Abrams’ next film.

This being a J.J. Abrams project, very little is known about the movie, although The Hollywood Reporter claim that contrary to reports it will have nothing to do with time-travel.

With the $1.5 billion grossing Top Gun: Maverick on his CV, as-well-as as this years sleeper-smash Anyone But You, and Richard Linklater’s superb Hit Man around the corner (read our ★★★★ review here), Powell has fast become one of Hollywood’s most popular leading men. This summer he will be seen alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones and Anthony Ramos in Minari-director Lee Isaac Chung’s blockbuster action sequel Twisters, while he has also been cast in Edgar Wright’s remake of The Running Man.

Meanwhile, Super 8 and Star Trek director Abrams has kept himself busy developing and producing small-screen output, but has been biding his time on the feature-film front since the fallout from The Rise of Skywalker.
