Marvel Studios’ X-Men film finds its writer in Michael Lesslie

May 22, 2024 by EJ Moreno

X-Men have broken into the mainstream again with the new series X-Men ’97, and now Marvel is gearing up to bring them back to live-action.

Deadline reports that Marvel Studios has attached a writer to their upcoming X-Men film, which would serve as the team’s official debut in the MCU.

The outlet reports that Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes writer Michael Lesslie is in negotiations to pen the upcoming film. Lesslie has credits on 2015’s Macbeth and the original script for the Assassin’s Creed film adaptation. His next project is the long-awaited sequel to the Now You See Me franchise.

Marvel fans have seen the X-Men and mutants pop up in the MCU for some time now. Ms. Marvel was confirmed to be a mutant, even using the iconic animated series score to push the importance. We’ve also seen a brief appearance from Charles Xavier (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Hank McCoy, A.K.A Beast (The Marvels) in recent films, while Hugh Jackman’s Logan is set to share top billing in this year’s Deadpool & Wolverine.

This news comes just as Marvel wraps its hit animated series, X-Men ’97. The series is currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

No talent or director is attached to the X-Men movie at the time of writing, and no release date has been set.
