Scarlett Johansson on joining Jurassic World franchise: “I’m pinching myself”

June 26, 2024 by EJ Moreno

Scarlett Johansson is park-hopping from Avengers Land to Jurassic Park as the actress prepares to leave the MCU behind and join the latest in the long-running Jurassic World franchise.

With David Koepp (Jurassic Park) returning to pen the script and director Gareth Edwards, Johansson is in good hands to make this jump, and she’s very aware. During an interview with ComicBook.com to promote her new film Fly Me To The Moon, Johansson talked about this untitled Jurassic World movie.

Firstly, she hypes the script, saying that Koepp’s script for the new one is “so incredible” and “he’s so passionate about it, which is so awesome.”

The actress shared her glee about joining the long-running dinosaur blockbuster franchise. Her passion dates back to childhood: “I’m an enormous Jurassic Park fan. It’s one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater. I remember seeing it so vividly. It was like life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.”

She adds, “I’m such an enormous fan of the franchise and a huge nerd for it. I’m just like, I can’t even, I’m pinching myself. I’ve been trying to get into this franchise in any possible way for over ten years.”

Even though it does seem like she’ll have a substantial role, Johansson jokes she’ll take anything, “I’m like, ‘I’ll die in the first five minutes! I can get eaten by whatever! I’ll do the craft service!’ I’ll do anything for it. The fact that it’s happened in this way at this time just is actually unbelievable. I can’t believe it.”

Filming on the project is underway in the UK, with Johansson starring alongside Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend. The new Jurassic World film is currently set for a July 2nd, 2025 release.
