Team17 announces return of a classic with Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition

August 28, 2024 by Andrew Newton

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the huge hit Worms Armageddon and Team17 Digital and Digital Eclipse have announced they will be releasing Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition on 26th September for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 4, Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch.  This new release will bring lots of bonus content to a fans both new and old. A new trailer can be seen below and for those veteran gamers among us it tickles that old nostalgia bone.

Worms Armageddon was originally destined to be an expansion pack for Worms 2, fortunately the powers that be decided it would be much better as a standalone game, and thank goodness they did as the game was more refined, the graphics were improved and it got to be experienced by players on all the major platforms of the time.

In the Anniversary Edition, the developers have included plenty of enhancements, quality-of-life improvements and a completely overhauled user interface that makes best use of current gen’ consoles.  Players will be able to play online with cross-generation support, allowing Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S owners to play together as well as those on PS4 and PS5.

Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition features:

  • An interactive museum charting the history of the series, from the early days of Worms on the Amiga and the genre as a whole.
  • A brand new save system.
  • A range of new display options such as modern aspect ratios, custom screen filters, enhanced HD and graphics options.
  • Optimised controls for current gen’ controllers.
  • Achievements and Trophies to collect.
  • An option to select a fully playable Game Boy Colour version of the game.

For fans of the franchise, shortly before Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition is released, Mantic Games will be releasing Worms: The Board Game on 9th September.

Look out for Worms Armageddon – Anniversary Edition arriving on Nintendo, Xbox and Playstation on 26th September.  In the meantime, get warming up that concrete donkey.
