Venom: The Last Dance looking at weakest franchise opening at the box office

October 25, 2024 by EJ Moreno

The fate of Venom: The Last Dance is almost sealed, but the weekend hasn’t been set in stone yet.

Sony’s third Venom is off to an interesting as its first international box office market has come on the board. Tom Hardy’s final solo film outing as the symbiote nabbed a strong $9.3M start in China.

While it doesn’t seem like a lot, that is the biggest opening day for a superhero film since Spider-Man: Far From Home in the market, and we could see a five-day launch somewhere in the $30M field.

Venom: The Last Dance was only set for a $150M global opening, with $85M of that from overseas, but this latest update has at least bumped it up to around $165M.

The projections in the States aren’t looking as robust; the third Venom is aiming for a box office debut of at least $65 million. The film lands in 4,125 North American theaters on Friday. Outlets have noted that those ticket sales would be far behind the prior installments: 2018’s Venom opened to $80 million) and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage set a then-pandemic era record of $90 million.

Venom: The Last Dance is currently at 37% on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Venom: The Last Dance, Tom Hardy returns as Venom, one of Marvel’s greatest and most complex characters, for the final film in the trilogy. Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo are forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.

Featuring in the cast of Venom: The Last Dance are Tom Hardy, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Juno Temple, Rhys Ifans, Peggy Lu, Alanna Ubach and Stephen Graham.

Venom: The Last Dance is set for release on October 25th.
