The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying comes to Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition via D&D Beyond

December 2, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Free League Publishing has announced that The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying is now available for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition on D&D Beyond.  These new rules contain everything that players need to create exciting adventures in Tolkien’s fantastical world.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying has been based on Francesco Nepitello’s second edition of The One Ring roleplaying game and will allow players to create thrilling adventures in Middle-earth.  Players will be able to choose from six heroic cultures and six new classes as they develop their character and learn about the wondrous artifacts and magic to take on the many terrifying adversaries that call Middle-earth home.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying features:

  • Six Callings – similar to classes in D&D, Callings represent the character’s features, their virtues and beliefs.
  • Six Heroic Cultures – like D&D’s species and backgrounds, the races of Middle-earth have their own histories and hardships.
  • Six Rewards – Unique traits that improve gear.
  • 42 Virtues – as with D&D feats, Virtues help players customise their character as they gain exp’ and knowledge.
  • 22 New Monster Stat Blocks – Sauron’s villainous servants, including Evil Men, Orcs, Trolls and Wraiths.
  • A Full Setting Guide that takes players to Eriador in the Third Age.
  • Six Patrons that are already fighting against the Shadow and if their goals align with the player’s then they can give a number of benefits.
  • New rules for Shadow points, Councils, Journeys and more.

All maps and tokens from the printed volume have been integrated into D&D Beyond’s toolset, allowing players to save time planning encounters, rolling up characters etc.

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying is available on D&D Beyond now.
