A new Stingray adventure available now from Big Finish

December 10, 2024 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish Productions has released a brand-new audiobook that takes listeners into the watery world of Gerry Anderson’s classic ‘Supermarionation’ show Stingray.  Stingray: Deadly Uprising – Project Orca narrated by Wayne Forester finds the Stingray is set to be replaced by a bigger and more powerful submarine, but will Stingray be replaced in the sub’s sixtieth anniversary?

Stingray: Project Orca is part of a celebratory multi-media narrative titled Deadly Uprising and follows on from the previous audiobook The Titanican Stratagem, which was released last month.

With Titan becoming more powerful, WASP has rushed to develop the replacement for Stingray, codenamed Orca.  Unlike Stingray’s patrol and exploration role, Orca is a big powerful sub designed purely for warfare in the depths.  Unfortunately for WASP, the rush to get Orca ready has also compromised its security.

In a bid to gain favour with Titan, X-20, the surface agent for Titan and the Aquaphibians has infiltrated Marineville and found out about Orca and decides to steal it.  With Orca stolen and Stingray hastily repaired after her damage from her encounter in the previous audiobook, Troy and crew attempt to pursue only to be faced with Titan’s alliance.

Stingray: Project Orca has been written by BAFTA winner Bob Ayres who has previously scripted audio plays for Big Finish’s Doctor Who: The First Doctor Adventures and The Second Doctor Adventures ranges.

Ayres said: “In my story, Stingray is replaced by a new, more advanced submarine. Troy Tempest is replaced by a new, blonder Captain. Marineville faces a new technological terror from the sea. Surface Agent X-20 tries on lots of new disguises. And there are big explosions. Those aren’t new. Big explosions are compulsory in a Stingray story. And – of course – Troy, Phones and Marina are at the heart of the action.”

Stingray: Project Orca has an epic run-time of almost 5 hours and is available now from the Big Finish website for £16.99.
