Two former Ghostface killers return for Scream 7: Scott Foley and Matthew Lillard are back!

January 31, 2025 by EJ Moreno

What a wild movie the seventh Scream is shaping up to be.

With all the recent developments, it seems like the production is long past its rocky beginning and is taking on a life of its own. One way Scream 7 stays fresh is by bringing back some fan favorites, like the Meek siblings and Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott. But now, our final girl will face former foes.

First, we learned Scott Foley would return to the franchise after facing Sidney as Roman Bridger in Scream 3. Deadline broke the story, noting Foley would have a still-undisclosed role in this Kevin Willamson-helmed project. That sent Scream fans into a tizzy as it would be the first returning Ghostface since the ghost of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) had a small role in Scream 5 and Scream 6.

The internet really broke, though, when news of Matthew Lillard’s return was announced via Deadline. The actor who starred in the first film took to social media to confirm the news of Stu Macher, which you can find below.

How these two will return has yet to be revealed, as both were seemingly killed off in their respective films.

This seventh Scream installment is directed by Kevin Williamson, creator and screenwriter of Wes Craven’s 1996 original. Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein (2022’s Scream and Scream VI) are producing.

The actors join legacy cast members Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown, as well as newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.

Scream 7 is currently in production and set for release on February 27th, 2026.
