Rhys Ifans joins For All Mankind spin-off Star City

February 4, 2025 by Ricky Church

Apple TV+ has made its first casting announcement for Star City, the upcoming spin-off and prequel to its alternate history sci-fi For All Mankind, with House of the Dragon’s Rhys Ifans joining the series.

Created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D. Moore, Star City is another alt-history retelling of the space race – when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.

Ifans will play the Chief Designer for the Soviets, serving as the driving force behind the Soviet Space program as they race to beat the United States to the moon, setting off the main story in For All Mankind.

Nedivi and Wolpert will serve as showrunners for Star City and executive produce alongside Moore, who will still oversee For All Mankind after if fifth season renewal last year. Joel Kinnaman leads the series alongside Wrenn Schmidt, Krys Marshall, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, Toby Kebbell, Tyner Rushing, Daniel Stern and Svetlana Efremova.
