David Arquette will return as Dewey in Scream 7

March 6, 2025 by Ricky Church

Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley aren’t the only deceased characters set for a return in Scream 7 as according to Deadline, David Arquette will reprise his iconic role as Dewey Riley in the anticipated film.

Arquette was one of the original stars in the first Scream as a Deputy in Woodsboro, trying to help the police and Sidney catch the Ghostface killer. Arquette reprised the role for all the films up to 2022’s Scream, where he met his fate at the hands of the new Ghostface.

How exactly Dewey will return is unknown, but this is far from the first time the Scream franchise has brought someone back from the dead. Scream 3 had a cameo from Jamie Kennedy as Randy after his death in the previous film with a pre-recorded message to pass onto Sidney in the event of his death and Scream saw Melissa Barrera’s Sam hallucinating Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis, afraid she’d become a killer just like her father.

Arquette joins his fellow legacy Scream members Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox alongside Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown from Scream and Scream VI. Joining the franchise in the new installment is Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos.

This seventh Scream installment is directed by Kevin Williamson, creator and screenwriter of Wes Craven’s 1996 original. Project X Entertainment’s James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein (2022’s Scream and Scream VI) are producing.

Scream 7 will be released on February 27th, 2026.
